If you are wanting to start an online business or any type of money making venture you should be looking into something you want to do or have a passion for. You don’t want to find yourself hundreds or thousands of dollars out of pocket and doing something you hate.

As an affiliate marketer I love talking about new ways to make money online, how to drive traffic to websites or helping others to get setup in this type of industry. If there was one thing I could say to help you get started in internet marketing it would be to find a niche that is profitable, that interests you and a niche that you have a passion for.

Knowing your niche makes the job more enjoyable and less like work, unless you plan to outsource your entire project. Here are my recommendations on how to choose a niche that you will make money with…

Choose Small Niches in Big Markets:

Big market niches would include Insurance, Making Money & Health to name a few. Health is a big word and has many, many, many markets below it.

Example:

• Weight loss
• Nutrition
• Medical Procedures
• Health Insurance

Then below those are more categories, we will use “weight loss” as an example…

• Exercise
• Supplements
• Work out equipment

Then with exercise it would be like…

• Arm Exercise
• Leg Exercise
• Abdominal exercise

Then you choose one of the above say, Abdominal Exercise. Abdominal Exercise has a number of products available for you to sell (which you can find at clickbank) and many other affiliate networks.

Now you have a niche, you can either write product reviews or you can build a information site and get paid from advertisers.

So the year is now 2009 and I thought I would write about my make money goals here.

This year I want to make more money than the past 2 years combined, with that being said here are my goal for 2009.

Make $30,000.00 online: Yep that is my main goal for 2009, I want to make $30,000.00 this year. How? Selling my own products, websites and affiliate sales.

Sell a Big Cash Website: I want to sell 1 website for over $1,000.00, which is something I haven’t done before.

Build 50 Profitable Websites: Yep 50 websites, I will build half and will most probably buy the other half depending on what I want the site for.

To reach my goal each site will need to make at least $3.00 a day. That would equal $90.00 per site for 30 days which equals $4,500.00 per month.  See how a few small dollars adds up?

Write Over 50 Articles:  In the past 2 years I have only written and submitted 25 articles, this year I want to beat that number and write over 50 articles. I have already written 2 so I have 48 to go.

Help Other People: This year I want to help at least 10 other people make money online, if I can do that, that would be a tremendous achievement and worth a bit of money

Build 15 Squidoo Lenses: As of now I only have 7 Squidoo lenses, so by the end of this year I want to have at least 15 new ones. The ones I do have do pretty well so I should hurry up and build more to make more money and get more highly targeted traffic.

Take Risks with Paid Advertising: I don’t know if this is a goal, but I want to start using PPC to drive traffic to my niche websites so I can make more money. If I do use PPC I will be using Yahoo, Facebook, USFreeAds - Featured ads and maybe Adwords.

And that’s it, those are my main goals for 2009.
